The Systems Between the Systems: Meet Daniel
The Art of the "Unseen" Pattern
Whether I was standing behind a set of turntables, working a high-volume line in a kitchen, or sitting in a hospital’s Behavioral Health Unit, I have always been fascinated by how parts come together to create a whole.
I spent my early twenties immersed in mixing tracks—not just for the music, but for the alchemy of it. As a DJ, I learned to listen for the minute details in a track, finding the exact moment where two separate stories could merge into a seamless, epic narrative. I realized then that when every element plays its part, we fall into something "bigger and truer" than ourselves.
I carry that same "ear" into my therapy room today. I don’t just hear your words; I’m listening for the rhythm of your life, the transitions between chapters, and the deep-seated patterns that orchestrate your world.
A Journey Through the "In-Between"
My path to clinical work wasn't a straight line. Growing up in the foster care system, I existed in the "space between"—the systems between the systems. This lived experience gave me a unique vantage point and a protective heart for those who feel misunderstood or marginalized by the conflict and chaos around them.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent two decades as a cook. I was drawn to the farm-to-table movement—not just for the culinary art, but for the community building. Eventually, my focus shifted from the produce to the people. I began to see that the dynamics within a kitchen team were far more complex than "personality clashes"; they were systemic patterns. I found myself looking past the "easy answers" to find the real truth of human behavior.
Clinical Expertise & Philosophy
After pursuing my education at Houghton University and Syracuse University, I leaned into Family Systems Theory. My experience in hospital psychiatric case management and direct care with SPMI (Serious and Persistent Mental Illness) populations taught me how to navigate the heaviest of "mucks."
Today, I specialize in working with couples and families. There is a profound blessedness and healing in the moment a family—sometimes five members deep in the room—begins to recognize their own patterns. I am here to help you find the courage to change those tracks, even when it feels like the hardest thing you’ve ever done.
My Approach: No Easy Answers
My colleagues and family would tell you: I am never satisfied with the easy answer. Whether it’s the sudden jolt of disillusionment or the slow work of untangling generational trauma, I respect the weight of the work.
Identity is deep-seated. It’s visceral. My role is to act as a witness and a guide—a "trusted servant" of sorts—helping you move out of the world of chaos and into a story that feels authentic, unified, and yours.
The Divine Rhythm: Integrating Faith
For those who wish to incorporate it, I offer a space to explore the spiritual dimensions of healing. My own journey into this practice has been guided by what I can only describe as "the nudge"—a persistent, divine call toward this work that was confirmed by mentors and colleagues alike.
I believe that the patterns we see in our families and ourselves often point toward a larger, grander Truth. If you choose, we can integrate Christian principles and theology into our sessions. To me, God is the "Divine Orchestrator," the one who brings order to our chaos and helps us find the Way. Whether we are untangling deep-rooted pain or navigating family conflict, we can look at how your faith provides the "unifying Spirit" that brings peace in the midst of a Fallen world.
